Reptiliomorpha

Reconstruction of the Early Permian Archeria crassidisca by Nobu Tamura.

Belongs within: Tetrapoda.
Contains: Lepospondyli, Reptilia, Synapsida.

The Reptiliomorpha is the group of animals more closely related to modern amniotes (reptiles and mammals) than to modern batrachians (frogs and salamanders). As well as the amniotes themselves, the Reptiliomorpha includes the Carboniferous and Permian 'anthracosaurs' and lepospondyls, two groups traditionally classed as amphibians. It is possible that the living caecilians are also reptiliomorphs, depending on whether they are derived from among the lepospondyls.
