The type subgenus of the genus Lohmannia is a pantropical and subtropical group of lohmanniid mites (Subías 2004).

Characters (from Balogh & Balogh 1992): Genital plates with transverse suture; preanal plate broad; anal and adanal plates separated; two pairs of anal setae; four pairs of adanal setae.

The type subgenus of the genus Mixacarus is a group of lohmanniid mites found in tropical and subtropical regions of Eurasia, Africa and the Americas (Subías 2004).

Characters (from Balogh & Balogh 1992): All dorsal setae setiform, simple; one or more transverse bands of notogaster interrupted. Genital plates without transverse suture; preanal plate wide; anal and adanal plates separated; two pairs of anal setae; four pairs of adanal setae.

Liochthonius

Liochthonius is an cosmopolitan genus of unornamented brachychthoniid mites in which the adanal plates are fused to form a U-shaped plate surrounding the anal plate (Balogh & Balogh 1992).

Characters (from Balogh & Balogh 1992): Notogaster with two transverse sutures and three shields, no setae arising within sutures; without prominent ornamentation. Shield Na bearing two rows of setae (c and d); seta d2 originating more medially than longitudinal row cp-e2. Pleural region with suprapleural plates absent or adnate to their shields and forming lobes. Epimeral setal formula 3-1-3-4. Genital plates with seven pairs of setae. Peranal plate present. Adanal plates fused posteriorly, forming U-shaped plate. Seta ad2 hypertrophied, widened, blade-like.

Sphaerochthoniidae

The Sphaerochthoniidae are a cosmopolitan group of oribatid mites with the notogaster divided by a telescoping type L scissure.

Characters (from Norton & Behan-Pelletier 2009): Integument distinctly patterned (foveolate or reticulate); at least some dorsal setae of notogaster and/or prodorsum heavily ciliate, T-shaped. Prodorsum stegasime; base of bothridial seta with conspicuous sharp proximal d bend. Notogaster with single transverse type L scissure, posterior to setal row c; four pairs of setae inserting on anterior notogastral plate (pronotaspis); opisthonotal gland absent. 4–10 pairs of anal setae present in linear arrangement. Legs with five free segments past coxisternum (femora undivided); trochanters I and II each with one seta; leg pretarsi with empodial claw well developed.

Haplochthoniidae

The Haplochthoniidae are a group of somewhat paedomorphic oribatid mites found in dry habitats such as building debris or dry soils.

Characters (from Norton & Behan-Pelletier 2009): Body legnth little more than twice maximum width. Prodorsum stegasime, without naso; bothridial setae clavate, with conspicuous sharp proximal d bend. Legs with five free segments past coxisternum, femora undivided; legs II and III almost adjacent. Pretarsi with empodium developed as claw. Notogaster with three transverse type E scissures; four pairs of setae (c row only) on anteriormost plate; with cupule immediately lateral to each mid-dorsal seta (c1, d1, e1, f1) in addition to normal complement; opisthonotal gland absent. Genital plates twice size of anal plates; aggenital setae absent; anal plates with four pairs of setae; peranal plate and seta absent.

Protoplophoridae

The Protoplophoridae are a cosmopolitan family of oribatid mites with a ptychoid body form, able to withdraw the legs and close the aspis against the notogaster and ventral region, and with the notogaster divided by three transverse sutures (Balogh & Balogh 1992). A telescoping type L scissure divides the notogaster between the c and d setal rows.
