Eriophyes

Eriophyes is a diverse genus of vermiform plant-feeding mites, members of which may cause galls or leaf blisters on their host plants. Notable species include E. pyri which causes blisters within the parenchymal leaf tissues of pears and related trees, and may also damage bud tissues in autumn and winter (Walter et al. 2009). Eriophyes mali is a closely related species found on apples differing in the sculpture of the prodorsal shield, with wavy admedian lines versus the almost straight lines on E. pyri (Shi & Boczek 2007).
