Eriophyes

Galls caused by Eriophyes laevis on leaf of alder Alnus glutinosa, copyright Graham Calow.

Belongs within: Eriophyoidea.

Eriophyes is a diverse genus of vermiform plant-feeding mites, members of which may cause galls or leaf blisters on their host plants. Notable species include E. pyri which causes blisters within the parenchymal leaf tissues of apples, pears and related trees, and may also damage bud tissues in autumn and winter (Walter et al. 2009).
