Baridinae

Peridinetus irroratus, photographed by Steven Paton.

Belongs within: Curculionidae.
Contains: Ambates, Madopterina, Torcina, Zygobaridina, Tonesiina, Madarina, Leptoschoinina, Lydamis, Coelonertina, Diorymerina, Eurhinina, Linoma, Pseudobaris, Heterosternus, Baris.

The Baridinae are a large group of weevils placed in about 550 genera. They are characterised by a generally rounded body form, with all anterior, posterior, dorsal, and ventral margins usually smooth and contiguous, and by an ascended mesepimeron (Davis 2009). Beyond these features, however, the morphological diversity within the group is notably high, and the baridines are consequently divided between a number of tribes and subtribes.
