Atropacarus

Atropacarus sp., copyright Scott Justis.

Belongs within: Phthiracaridae.

Atropacarus is a cosmopolitan genus of phthiracarid mites with three or four pairs of closely-placed setae on the inner margin of the ano-adanal plates. The type subgenus Atropacarus, with four pairs of such setae, is sometimes treated separately from the remaining subgenera with three pairs, which are then placed as the genus Hoplophorella. Members of the subgenus Kakophthiracarus are characterised by having all setae in the anogenital region very short and fine.

Notophthiracarus

Notophthiracarus bentoni, copyright Mo Hassan.

Belongs within: Phthiracaridae.

Notophthiracarus is a genus of ptyctimous oribatid mites that is particularly diverse in the Oriental and Australasian regions. Members of the subgenus Notophthiracarus sensu stricto have the genital setae arranged in a single longitudinal row along the inner margin of the genital plates but two such rows are present in Calyptophthiracarus. In members of the subgenus Besuchetacarus, a pair of longitudinal keels run the entire length of the notogaster.
