Eustathiidae

Belongs within: Psoroptidia.

The Eustathiidae are a family of mites only found living on the feathers of swifts (Apodi) (Moss et al. 1977).

Characters (from OConnor 2009): Genital setae (g) absent. Trochantes I–III without setae; solenidia ς present on genua I–III; proral setae present on all setae, flattened apically; no seta on tarsus I longer than solenidion ω3; tarsi III and IV each with three ventral setae; pretarsal ambulacral discs well developed; condylophores L-shaped.

Acaroidea

Belongs within: Astigmata.
Contains: Acaridae.

The Acaroidea are a group of mites commonly associated with nests of vertebrates or Hymenoptera, though members of the family Acaridae have become more diverse in habits. Females of the Acaroidea have a strongly folded pseudovipositor that they use in egg deposition (OConnor 2009).

Characters (from OConnor 2009): Adults with gnathosoma normally formed; chelicerae chelate-dentate. Subcapitulum and palpi normally formed. Idiosoma with cuticle smooth, mammillate, tuberculate, rarely entirely sclerotised. Propodosomatic sclerotisation typically shield-like, rarely in form of two parallel sclerites, occasionally absent. Sejugal furrow usually present, sometimes absent. Dorsal and paraproctal chaetome complete or strongly reduced. Coxisternal skeleton normally developed with addition of paired apodematic elements in ventral sejugal region; chaetome ancestrally complete. Female oviporus in form of inverted V; internally with strongly folded pseudovipositor; epigynal apodeme rarely apparent. Male normally with paranal suckers, occasionally reduced or absent; modified, sucker-like setae on tarsus IV; sometimes with legs III variously enlarged, or rarely legs I enlarged. Mating position reversed. Legs normally developed; chaetome complete to strongly reversed. Pretarsi with or without membranous ambulacrum, empodial claws usually present, rarely absent. Deutonymphs (where known) with gnathosomatic remnant variously developed or absent; idiosoma typically ovoid to rounded in outline, usually well sclerotised, smooth or with pattern of striations or punctations dorsally; propodosomatic ocelli rarely present (some Acaridae); sejugal furrow always present; coxisternal skeleton normally developed or strongly reduced and without posterior median apodeme, chaetome ancestrally complete or some or all coxal setae absent; attachment organ well developed, with all structures present; legs normally developed, or legs IV reduced and lacking pretarsus, chaetome complete or some setae absent; pretarsi with or without membranous ambulacrum; empodial claws normally present, occasionally absent (some Suidasiidae).

Teinocoptinae

Belongs within: Sarcoptoidea.
Contains: Notoedres.

Teinocoptinae is a lineage of scabies mites. With the exception of some species of Notoedres, all teinocoptines are parasites of bats (primarily pteropodids).

Characters (from Klompen 1992): Setae c1 and c2 simple, leg setae s I-II and ra I-II spinose; imatures with setae cp reduced; nymphs with delay in addition and weak development of setae f2; tritonymph and female with setae e III-IV absent; female with anus dorsoterminal or terminal, body comparatively high (except in Notoedres subgenus Notoedres); male with free anterior lateral shields, well-developed posterior lateral shields, setae kT III-IV spinose.
