Zaclys

Zaclys sarissa, from Marshall (1978).

Belongs within: Cerithiimorpha.

Zaclys is a genus of small, turret-shaped marine gastropods, about 2-3 mm in height, found in southern Australia and New Zealand. Members of the type subgenus have a many-whorled, reticulate protoconch ending in a carina (Finlay 1927).

Characteristics (from Marshall 1978): Spire up to 4.6× as high as aperture, narrowly and more or less evenly conical. Sutures strongly impressed. Protoconch clearly demarcated from teleoconch, with 3.5-4.5 minutely granulate convex whorls. Last half-whorl with prominent submedian carina and brephic riblets on shoulder. Teleoconch with up to nine strongly convex whorls reticulately sculptured with spiral cords and axial costae with nodular intersections. Three spirals on spire whorls; fourth spiral emerging from insertion of outer lip. Base evenly contracted. Columella gently inclined towards aperture, gently tapering, smooth. Aperture ovate. Anterior canal poorly developed, gently inclined away from aperture, open, widely notched below, not produced.
