Bonjeania is a genus of stilletto flies found in southern and eastern Australia and Tasmania.
Characters (from Winterton et al. 2001): Antennae positioned low on frons; scape 2 times length of pedicel; flagellum short, conical-shaped; antennae shorter than head length; scape and pedicel with short setae admixed with longer setae; frons with glossy tubercle usually present above antennae; male frons width variable, narrower than female; male occiput concave with single row of postocular setae; female occiput convex with multiple poorly defined rows of postocular setae; palp and labellum short, spatulate; femora all equal length; wing cell m3 closed; wing infuscation usually sexually dimorphic; abdominal tergite 2 with posteromedial patch of modified setae; posterior margin abdominal tergites 1-4 often with thickened band of velutum orientated anteriorly; epandrium short; cerci elongate; gonocoxites inverted wedge shape in profile, velutum present on medial atrium membrane; gonocoxal apodemes usually greatly elongate, greater than 4 times length of gonocoxite, rarely shorter; ventral lobe narrow, directed medially; distiphallus usually extremely long, thin; ejaculatory apodeme and lateral ejaculatory apodeme greatly enlarged; female with single spermatheca; anterior margin of female sternite 8 emarginate; spermathecal duct joins spermathecal sac duct proximal to sac; spermathecal sac simple, spherical (rarely reduced).
