Hoplophthiracarus is a cosmopolitan genus of phthiracarid box mites. In most species, the lyrifissures are reduced so only fissures ia and im are present, but lyrifissures ia, im, ip and ips are present in H. frater (Niedbała 1986).
Characters (from Balogh & Balogh 1992): All genital setae except g6 in one longitudinal row very near inner margin of genital plate. Seta d on tibia IV long and removed from solenidion.
