Panelcanida

Holotype of Permoraphidia magnifica, from Béthoux & Nel (2002).


Belongs within: Orthoptera.
Contains: Caelifera.

The Panelcanida is a clade uniting the short-horned grasshoppers with the extinct 'elcanoids'.

Synapomorphies (from Béthoux & Nel 2002): Forewing vein RP fusing with MA rather than with MA1, basal free part of RP short before fusion; RP posteriorly ramified, with branches simple or weakly ramified; three or less branches of CuA + CuPaα.
