Belongs within: Carabodidae.

The type subgenus of the genus Gibbicepheus is a primarily pantropical group of carabodid oribatid mites with four rows of large tubercles on the notogaster.

Characters (from Balogh & Balogh 1992): Prodorsum with wide lamellae. Notogaster with large tubercles aligned in four longitudinal rows; humeral setae absent; medial setae widely distributed, about equidistant; posteromarginal region with four pairs of setae. Genital plates with four pairs of setae.
