The type subgenus of the genus Metabelba is a subcosmopolitan group of damaeid oribatid mites, not yet known from the Neotropical region (Subías 2004).
Characters (from Balogh & Balogh 1992): Notogaster with spinae adnatae absent. Setal formula of trochanters I–IV 1-1-4-3; setal formula of genua I–IV 4-4-4-4, seta d formula of genua 1-1-1-0; seta d formula of tibiae I–IV 0-1-1-0.
