The type subgenus of the genus Odontocepheus is a group of relatively elongate carabodid oribatid mites found in the Holarctic and Australian regions.
Characters (from Balogh & Balogh 1992): Body elongate, more than twice as long as wide. Prodorsum with wide lamellae; sensillus short with dilated head. Notogaster evenly arched; notogastral setae more or less evenly spaced; anterior margin of notogaster with four pairs of anteriorly directed setae; posteromarginal area with four pairs of setae, relatively short but otherwise similar to remaining notogastral setae. Genital plates with four pairs of setae.
