The type subgenus of the genus Damaeus is a group of damaeid oribatid mites found in the Holarctic region (Subías 2004). Where diet is known, they feed on microalgae and moulds.
Characters (from Balogh & Balogh 1992): seta d Notogaster with spinae adnatae present. Setal formula of trochanters I–IV 1-1-2-1; setal formula of genua I–IV 4-4-3-3; absent on all leg genua and tibiae.
