Views of Rhynchoribates brasiliensis: (from left to right) dorsal, ventral, chelicera, and subcapitulum, from Norton & Behan-Pelletier (2009).

Belongs within: Circumdehiscentiae.

The Rhynchoribatidae are a small family of oribatid mites with unusual attenuate-edentate chelicerae (Norton & Behan-Pelletier 2009).

Characters (from Norton & Behan-Pelletier 2009): Length 500–1000 µm. Prodorsum elongate with rostrum gradually or abruptly attenuated; rostral setae curved gently; without true lamellae; bothridium position only slightly forward of dorsosejugal furrow. Subcapitulum anarthric; rutella forming tube; chelicerae attenuate-edentate. Palpgenu separate from femur, with one seta; palptarsus with eight setae; distal eupathids on palptarsus fused basally, appearing like forked seta. Notogaster without octotaxic system.
