Rhyparochromidae

Lethaeus nitidus, from here.

Belongs within: Panheteroptera.

The Rhyparochromidae are a group of bugs that mostly feed on ripe seeds that have dropped to the ground. Members of the tribe Cleradini, however, are exceptional in feeding on vertebrate blood (Carver et al. 1991).

Characters (from Carver et al. 1991, as Rhyparochrominae): Suture between sternite 4 and sternite 5 curving forward laterally and not attaining lateral margins of abdomen; trichobothria usually present on head.
