Belongs within: Phlaeothripidae.
Apterygothrips is a poorly defined genus of thrips of doubtful status; it may be synonymous with the closely related Karnyothrips (Mound & Marullo 1996).
Characters (from Mound & Marullo 1996): Antennal segments VII and VIII distinct, segment IV with two or three sense cones; maxillary stylets one-third to one-quarter of head width apart; prosternal basantra well developed; anal setae often 1.5 times as long as tube or longer.
