Belongs within: Scarabaeoidea.

The Rutelinae are a group of stout, usually brightly coloured and metallic scarab beetles. Larvae are found in soil (Lawrence & Britton 1991).

Characters (from Lawrence & Britton 1991): Tarsal claws unequal (at least on hind leg) with one claw more slender than the other or one claw only toothed, often large and movable; elytra often with narrow membranous margin between posterolateral edge; pronotum always unarmed; cuticle often brightly coloured and metallic. Larva with head never strongly punctured or dark brown; apical antennal segment about as wide as penultimate segment, and with three oval sensory areas, penultimate segment lacking a sensorium; labrum asymmetrical with deeply pigmented notch on right side of midline; mandible with ventral oval stridulatory area; stridulatory teeth on dorsal edge of maxilla always with anteriorly directed points; galea and lacinia entirely fused to form mala; legs long, hind coxa longer than width of clypeus; anal cleft transverse; segments 9 and 10 separated by complete suture; S9 without raster composed of bilaterally symmetrical rows of setae.
