Chrysonotomyia is a cosmopolitan genus of wasps that develop in eggs and young larvae of other insects, particularly leaf-mining and galling Diptera and Lepidoptera (Bouček 1988).

Characters (from Bouček 1988): Head and thorax in general densely reticulate, mostly of distinct metallic colours, occasionally some parts rich yellow; temples usually rather narrow (if exceptionally swollen and very broad, then thorax dorsally only slightly convex and paired setae distincy, fairly long); female funicle 2-segmented, male flagellum 5-segmented, funicle usually not differentiated; frons with fork grooves, usually of X-shape; lower face without cross-crest; scutellum and scutum without pits; stigmal and postmarginal veins generally short, the latter varying from slightly shorter to slightly longor than the stigmal; stigmal vein often branches off at an angle slightly less than 60°, with the surrounding pilosity regular and fairly dense.
