Diorymerina

Diorymerus lancifer, from Davis (2009).

Belongs within: Baridinae.

The Diorymerina are a group of weevils characterised by an extremely high rounded upper profile, sometimes almost circular in side view. The dorsal surface is entirely or almost entirely smooth, and the beak is usually rather stout and strongly sculptured (though there are exceptions to this last character).

Characters (from Casey 1922, as Diorymerini): Body exceedingly convex, smooth, glabrous, without trace of scaly covering at any point, and at most, and very rarely, a few erect setae. Beak moderate in length, frequently notably short. Prosternum deeply and abruptly canalate, often capable of receiving the beak but not snugly. Femora subparallel, not spiculate beneath, sulcate along their under surface; tibiae generally angulate externally near base. Coloration usually deep black to piceo-rufous in whole or in part, rarely with a bright green metallic lustre.
