Abrotarsala

Abrotarsala is a genus of mites known from passalid beetles of the tribe Proculini in Mexico and Central America (Schuster & Summers 1978).

Characters (from Schuster & Summers 1978): Idiosoma pyriform to oval in outline, widest across opisthosoma. Tectum with three to five very small points on apex. Three or four pairs of peripheral body setae on posterior end of opisthosoma; two pairs ultralong, one or two pairs very small. Three or more pairs of dorsomedian microsetae. Perigynial suture complete. Ventral apron widened by panels (metapodal plates?) joined to its margins. Leg II of males may be hypertrophied and armed with apophyses on basal segments and a claw-like process on tarsus.
