Belongs within: Ostracoda.
Contains: Suchonellina, Cyprididae, Candonidae, Ilyocyprididae, Cyprideidae.
The Cypridocopina are a group of ostracods in which three pairs of thoracic legs are present, with the first pair modified to function as a mouthpart and the third pair is bent dorsally and used as a cleaning organ, and the body bears a terminal furca (Benson et al. 1961). The majority of species have a smooth carapace though exceptions occur (Liebau 2005).
Characters (from Benson et al. 1961, as Cypridacea): Carapace variable in size, shape, and surface ornamentation; calcareous or corneous; mid-ventral margin curved inward. Hinge of ridge-and-groove type or rabbeted; muscle scars a median group of spots, typically not radially or linearly arranged, with additional more anteroventral spots in most genera; inner lamellae present; line of concrescence and inner margin typically separated.
