Belongs within: Chironomidae.

The Pentaneurini are a tribe of non-biting midges with a reduced costal vein and cylindrical to comb-like tibial spurs (Oliver 1981).

Characters (from Oliver 1981): Wing with C not produced past R4+5 or produced by less than length of crossvein r-m; cubital fork proximal to or opposite crossvein m-cu. Postanepisternal and katepisternal setae usually absent; postnotal setae always absent. Tibial spurs of hind leg cylindrical to comb-like.
