Forcipomyia is a diverse genus of hairy biting midges.

Characters (from Downes & Wirth 1981): Female antenna with 13 flagellomeres. Wing with C short or long; cell r₂₊₃ usually short, but if long distinctly narrow; crossvein r-m present; microtrichia minute; macrotrichia moderately abundant, sloping, often scale-like, covering most of wing; fringe complex, not a single row of hairs. Empodia well developed in female; claws strongly curved.
