The Apocleinae are a group of robber flies characterised by a bare anatergite and bare antennal stylus.

Characters (from Wood 1981, as subgroup of Asilini): Apex of antenna with long, slender, bare bristle-like stylus. Palpus one-segmented. Postmetacoxal area membranous. R₂₊₃ joining R₁ proximal to end of R₁, with cell r thus separated from wing margin. Anatergite bare.
