Nomia is a genus of bees whose species excavate nests in soil (Michener 1965).
Characters (from Michener 1965): First flagellar segment shorter than scape; proboscis with apices of galeae in repose not reaching posterior end of proboscidial fossa; mesepisternum with distinct pre-episternal groove extending but little below scrobal groove; stigma distinct, longer than broad; three submarginal cells present, second submarginal cell on posterior side shorter than first;, third submarginal cell at least three-fourths as long as first and more than twice as long as second; posterior tibial spurs present; hind tibia without corbicula.
