Geinitzinidae

Longitudinal section of Pachyphloia ovata under plane-polarised light, from Groves et al. (2004).

Belongs within: Lagenida.

The Geinitzinidae are a group of uniserial foraminifera known from the Late Carboniferous and Permian, with an ancestrally atelo-monolamellar (i.e. lacking secondary lamellarity), hyaline-radial wall structure. In the derived genus Pachyphloia, the wall becomes plesio-monolamellar, with secondary lamellae enveloping some but not all previous chambers (Groves et al. 2003).
