Primitiopsidae

Belongs within: Ostracoda.

The Primitiopsidae are a group of ostracods known from the Ordovician to the mid-Devonian (Whatley et al. 1993).

Characters (from Benson et al. 1961): Unisulcate (sulcus or sulcal pit corresponding to S₂) or nonsulcate; hingement may consist of median groove and corresponding ridge with lateral pits and prominences. Dimorphic, with more or less closed posterior velar chamber in heteromorphs but adventral structures may or may not be developed in tecnomorphs.
