Amphigerontiinae

Prospective Neoblaste sp., from here.

Belongs within: Psocetae.
Contains: Amphigerontia, Blaste.

The Amphigerontiinae are a group of barklice characterised by amorphous development of the male abdominal apex and a reduced phallosome (New & Lienhard 2007).

Characters (from New & Lienhard 2007): Fore wing veins R4+5 and M not connected or fused; vein M comprising distal border of discoidal cell usually convex; pterostigma relatively deep. Male hypandrial sclerites encompassing abdominal sternites 8 and 9 so apex of male abdomen appears 'encapsulated'; parameres open distally (no phallosome frame); apophysis of male paraproct broadly rounded. Female with apex of dorsal gonapophysis valve a slender tapered process.

Loensia

Loensia moesta, copyright Robert Webster.

Belongs within: Psocinae.

Loensia is a genus of barklice in which the fore wings are extensively marked with scattered blotches.

Characters (from Mockford 1993): Adults of both sexes macropterous. Five distal inner labral sensilla present. Fore wing marked with scattered spotting and blotching over most of wing surface with no particular pattern. Hypandrium with or without basal sclerites; asymmetrical medial strap present based on right side, usually trending leftward, bent upward and forward at apex, sometimes not bending leftward but a lobe or process on left side sometimes as long as or longer than strap. Phallosome with short anterior apodeme; distally with a single process, usually symmetrical. Male epiproct chair-shaped, extending anteriorly over clunium. Subgenital plate with distal process short and wide, about as long as, or slightly shorter than, its basal width; pigmented arms slender, directed forward, abruptly widening to form broad, quadrate lateral areas. Ovipositor valvulae with apical process of v2 long and slender; v3 relatively slender, transverse, with moderate to long median lobe.

Blaste

Blaste quieta, copyright Robert Webster.

Belongs within: Amphigerontiinae.

Blaste is a cosmopolitan genus of barklice, the definition of which remains debated.

Characters (from Mockford 1993): Adults macropterous or brachypterous, rarely micropterous. Fore wing with veins Rs and M joined at a point, or by a short fusion, or by a short crossvein. Hypandrium distally symmetrical with a pointed process medially (occasionally absent), flanked by two processes of variable shape and length. Male parameres fused at base. Male epiproct with straight anterior margin, not overlapping clunial margin. Subgenital plate with egg guide relatively short, usually somewhat arrow-head shaped; pigmented arms directed anterolaterally, only slightly expanded at distal ends, no anterior median projection from basal junction of arms.

Ectopsocopsis

Ectopsocopsis cryptomeriae, from Takipororin.

Belongs within: Lachesilloidea.

Ectopsocopsis is a genus of ectopsocid barklice found in Eurasia, Africa and North America. Males have a complex clunial ornamentation, often with a row of teeth and/or extensive asymmetrical sclerotisation; females have the gonapophyses represented only by external valves and usually have a median posterior lobe on the subgenital plate (New & Lienhard 2007).
