Stenocypridini

Right valve of female Acocypris capillata, internal view, from Martens (2001).

Belongs within: Cyprididae.

The Stenocypridini are a tribe of freshwater ostracods including both sexually and parthenogenetically reproducing species. The furca is asymmetrical in members of the genera Stenocypris and Chrissia but symmetrical in Ampullacypris, Stenocypria and Acocypris. Species of Acocypris have the carapace valves hairy with several long setae arising from the posterior part of the valves (Martens 2001).

Characters (from Martens 2001): Mostly elongate and laterally flattened species, with no inwardly displaced selvage, valves with or without marginal septa. Rome organ on antennule small or medium-sized (never longer than segment), consisting of one part only; second segment of maxillular palp rectangular, with length 1.5-3 times the distal width; setae dl and d2 on second thoracopod subequal; furcae symmetrical or asymmetrical, sometimes strongly so, and with or without proximal seta.
