The Triphoroidea are a group of small, high-spired marine gastropods that are specialist predators of sponges, feeding by means of an elongated proboscis. Teleoconch sculpture is dominated by spiral cords, often with axial costae forming nodules at their intersections. Members of the family Triphoridae are most commonly sinistral whereas other families are dextral. Newtoniellidae are most commonly found in deep waters whereas Cerithiopsidae and Triphoridae are most diverse on the continental shelf.
