The Zetorchestidae are a family of oribatid mites found primarily among plant debris that often have the hindmost legs modified for jumping (Norton & Behan-Pelletier 2009).
Characters (from Norton & Behan-Pelletier 2009): Length 330–550 µm. Subcapitulum diarthric; chelicerae chelate-dentate. Prodorsum with true lamellae. Cerotegument with large globules; octotaxic system absent. One or two pairs of adanal setae, positioned postanally. Tarsus I with three solenidia, pretarsus with very small claw, tarsal pulvillus present; legs IV modified for jumping or not.
