The type subgenus of the genus Metabelbella is a group of damaeid oribatid mites found in southern and eastern Europe (Subías 2004).
Characters (from Balogh & Balogh 1992): Notogaster with spinae adnatae absent. Setal formula of trochanters I–IV 1-1-4-3; setal formula of genua I–IV 4-4-4-4, seta d formula of genua I–IV 1-1-1-0; tibiae I–IV with seta d absent.
