The Fortuyniidae are a group of oribatid mites found in intertidal habitats in tropical and subtropical regions.
Characters (from Norton & Behan-Pelletier 2009): Length 400–500 µm. Gnathosoma normal; chelicerae with dentate chelae, with two setae. Prodorsum without true lamellae; bothridial setae reduced. Octotaxic system absent; ;ateral plastron (Van der Hammen's organ) present. Genital plates with six pairs of setae; lyrifissure iad positioned beside or posterior to ad3. Tibiae and tarsi partially fused; tarsus II with two solenidia.
