Achipteria is a genus of oribatid mites found in Eurasia and the Americas with long humeral processes and a sacculate octotaxic system. Two subgenera are recognised with species of Achipteria sensu stricto having long interlamellar setae that project considerably beyond the bases of the cuspides whereas in Izuachipteria they are minute or absent (Balogh & Balogh 1992).
Characters (from Balogh & Balogh 1992): Prodorsum covered by two large lamellae; interlamellar setae arising aligned with dorsosejugal suture or absent. Notogaster with ten pairs of setae; four pairs of sacculi; long, pointed horizontal process on shoulder; pteromorphae immovable. Six pairs of genital setae; one pair of aggenital setae; two pairs of anal setae; three pairs of adanal setae; Legs tridactyle.
