Belongs within: Dichoporita.
Contains: Callocystitidae, Echinoencrinitidae.
The Glyptocystitida are a Lower Ordovician to Upper Devonian group of cystoids in which the pore groups have well-exposed openings.
Characters (from Kesling 1967): Theca in most genera composed of four BB, five ILL, five LL, five RR, and five OO, though plate O1 is tripartite in many genera and R1 is bipartite in some; a few anomalous plate divisions known to occur in some specimens. Rhombs developed as distinct pectinirhombs, most as full rhomgs and a few as demirhombs, with well-exposed pores or slits. Column present, in most forms with expanded, flexible proximal part.
