Belongs within: Brachyura.
Contains: Etyidae.
The Raninoida or Archaeobrachyura are a group of crabs first recorded from the Cretaceous. They are characterised by the complete loss of the uropods, without even a modified remnant (Guinot & Tavares 2001). The Raninoidea camouflage themselves by burrowing into sediment, whereas the Cyclodorippoidea may bury themselves or carry debris for concealment.
