Pectinida

Placunopsis gingensis, left valve, from Todd & Palmer (2002).

Belongs within: Pteriomorphia.
Contains: Buchiacea, Deltopecten, Aviculopectinoidea, Plicatuloidea, Limidae, Anomia.

The Pectinida are a clade of bivalves supported by molecular data, combining the living taxa Pectinoidea, Limoidea and Anomiidae. The Anomiidae, golden oysters, are a family of generally sessile bivalves that are first definitely known from the Jurassic (Todd & Palmer 2002). Anomiids usually have thin, translucent shells, and are attached to the substrate when mature by a byssal plug passing through a large foramen in the right valve. The dorsoventrally striated byssal plug is calcified by a mixture of calcite and aragonite.
