Kitasatospora

Kitasatospora is a genus of actinomycetes that form an extensively branched mycelium with aerial hyphae differentiating into long chains of spores (Groth et al. 2003).

Characters (from Groth et al. 2003): Aerobic, chemo-organotrophic; Gram-positive; forming extensively branched substrate mycelium and aerial hyphae that differentiate into long chains of spores. Typically producing whole-organism hydrolysates rich in galactose and LL- and meso-diaminopimelic acid (A₂pm); aerial spores on solid culture and submerged spores in liquid culture containing LL-A₂pm; mycelium grown under both culture conditions mainly containing meso-A₂pm.
