Belongs within: Cecidomyiinae.

The Asphondyliini are a group of midges that form complex galls on flowers, buds and leaves (Gagné 1981).

Characters (from Gagné 1981, as Asphondyliidi): Antennal flagellomeres with short necks, elongate-cylindrical, usually with anastomosing closely appressed circumfila. Ocelli absent. Tarsal claws simple. Gonostylus of male terminalia short, wide, situated either dorsally or dorsocaudally on gonocoxite; gonocoxites free ventrally. Female abdominal sternite 7 about 1.5 times length of sternite 6; cercus one-segmented.
