Liacaridae

Dorycranosus acutidens, photographed by David Porco.

Belongs within: Circumdehiscentiae.
Contains: Liacarus (Liacarus).

The Liacaridae are a family of oribatid mites with converging lamellae, and two pairs of humeral setae c1 and c2 placed near to each other. The lamellae remain well-separated in Planoristes acuspidatus but are fused apically in the remaining genera. Birsteinius has monodactyle legs whereas the legs of Opsioristes, Liacarus and Dorycranosus are tridactyle. Opsioristes eurhostus has five pairs of genital setae vs six in Liacarus and Dorycranosus (Balogh & Balogh 1992).
