Nothrus is a cosmopolitan genus of parthenogenetic mites found feeding on decaying plant matter and fungi.

Characters (from Balogh & Balogh 1992): Rostrum with median incision; bothridial sensillus present; epimeres neotrichous, epimeral setal formula 5-3-4-4, 7-4-6-5 or 7-5-5-4; genital and anal plates of macropyline type, large, occupying entire ventral side posterior to epimeres; nine pairs of genital setae, genital plates without transverse suture; aggenital setae absent; two pairs of anal setae; three pairs of adanal setae; legs with one, two or three tarsal claws.
