Belongs within: Eteoanisoptera.

The Aeshnoidea include the Aeshnidae, hawkers, a group of medium-sized to large, usually strong-flying dragonflies, and their fossil relatives. Aeshnids can be distinguished from other living dragonflies by their having wings with vein MA converging on R4 but degenerate distally (Theischinger & Hawking 2006).

Synapomorphies (from Nel et al. 2001, as Aeshnoptera): Wings with RP1 and RP2 basally parallel up to pterostigma, with single row of cells in between; Rspl at least weakly present; RP3/4 and MA more or less undulating.
