Plateremaeidae

Belongs within: Circumdehiscentiae.

The Plateremaeidae are a cosmopolitan family of oribatid mites with a flattened notogaster. In most genera the notogaster is also more or less circular though Paralopheremaeus is a more elongate oval (Balogh & Balogh 1992).

Characters (from Balogh & Balogh 1992): Prodorsum without true lamellae. Six pairs of notogastral setae. Genital plates with seven pairs of setae, without transverse suture. One pair of aggenital setae, 4-7 pairs of anal setae, three pairs of adanal setae. Pedotecta not auriculiform; pedotectal tooth present.
