Female Megalyra fasciipennis, photographed by Simon van Noort.

Belongs within: Siricomorpha.
Contains: Ichneumonoidea, Aculeata, Proctotrupomorpha.

The Apocrita is a major clade of wasps characterised by the development of a narrow waist between the first and second abdominal segments, with the first abdominal segment being incorporated into the mesosoma as the propodeum (Grimaldi & Engel 2005). Members of the Apocrita are ancestrally parasitic as larvae.
