Dusicyon

Colpeo fox Dusicyon culpaeus, photographed by Eduardo Rivero.

Belongs within: Canidae.

The genus Dusicyon includes a number of small canids found in South America. Because of the somewhat atypical nature of the effective type species, Dusicyon australis, many authors have divided these species between a number of genera.

Characters (from Macdonald 1984): Coat usually grey with tawny grizzling. Skull long and thin; frontal bones forming flat brows; ears large and erect; tail bushy.
