Belongs within: Sorbeoconcha.
Contains: Litiopidae, Melanopsidae, Siliquariidae, Turritellidae, Pleuroceridae, Potamididae, Paludomidae, Thiaridae, Batillariidae, Fossarinae, Specula, Zaclys, Clava, Alabina, Bittium, Cerithium.

The Cerithioidea are a large assemblage of aquatic gastropods, including both marine and freshwater species.

Characters (from Strong et al., in press): Midgut with crescentic ridge and U-shaped fold. Accessory ganglion present. Males aphallate. Gonoduct open; oviduct with spermatophore bursa present in medial lamina. Euspermatozoa with no apical bleb or acessory membrane associated with acrosomal vesicle; four mitochondria in euspermatozoa, mitochondrial cristae highly modified and organised as parellel plates.
